Privacy notice

Riderverse (riderverse.co.uk) is a social network for motorbike riders. We take your privacy seriously and follow the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. This notice explains, in plain English, what we collect and why.
Who we are
Riderverse is the “data controller” for your personal data. [PLACEHOLDER: owner / company name and postal address]
What we store
- Name — shown on your profile so other riders know who you are.
- Age — the age you tell us at sign-up, used only to check you are 16 or over. It is never shown publicly.
- Email address — used to log you in and, if ever needed, to contact you about your account. Never shown publicly and never sold.
- Password — stored only as a secure one-way hash (we can’t see your actual password).
- Things you choose to add — username, profile photo, bio, bike, location, photos, captions, comments, likes and who you follow. These are public on Riderverse and visible to anyone who visits the site.
- Security data — your IP address and the time of login and sign-up attempts, to protect accounts from password-guessing. These records are deleted automatically after about 2 days. Our web host may also keep standard server logs for a short period.
When you upload a photo we automatically remove hidden metadata (such as EXIF and GPS location) from it.
Cookies
We use a single, strictly necessary cookie (rv_session) to keep you logged in and to protect forms against forgery. We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies, and our fonts are hosted on our own server, so no data is sent to third-party font or tracking services.
Why we use your data (lawful basis)
- To provide your account and the service — necessary to perform our agreement with you (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
- To keep Riderverse secure and prevent abuse — our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)).
Who we share it with
We don’t sell or rent your data. It is stored with our web hosting provider, who acts as our data processor. [PLACEHOLDER: confirm hosting provider and data-centre location] We may disclose data if required by law.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account at any time from Edit profile → Delete my account; this permanently removes your profile, posts, photos, comments, likes and follows. Backups are overwritten within a short period.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the use of your data, and to receive a copy of it (data portability). To use any of these rights, contact us using the details below. You can edit most of your details yourself in your profile settings.
If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk, tel. 0303 123 1113.
Age limit
Riderverse is only for people aged 16 and over. Age is self-declared. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 16, we will delete it.
